Discretized Conical Waves in Multimode Optical Fibers

Multimode optical fibers has emerged as the platform that will bridge gap between nonlinear optics in bulk media and single-mode fibers. However, understanding of transition these two research fields still remains incomplete despite numerous investigations intermodal phenomena spatiotemporal coupling. Some striking observed with ultrashort ultra-intense pulses (i.e., conical emission, harmonic generation light bullets) require a deeper insight to be possibly unveiled multimode Here we generalize concept waves described towards structured media, such fibers, which only discrete finite number modes can propagate. The modal distribution provides quantization emission (e.g., quantized X-waves) through phase-matched resonant radiations dispersive waves) seeded by shocks or wave structures during compression stages. Such dispersion- diffraction-free are generated when rather intense short pulse propagates nonlinearly waveguide, whatever dispersion regime waveguide geometry. Future experiments commercially-available could reveal different forms an easy control supercontinuum bullets.
